I am surprised to see folks recommending the D200 and then again, maybe not. Looking at the types of photos you take and that it's just a spare, the D200 would work great.

B&H has the D300 at $1699 (dollars). If you made any of your choices, that camera should probably be your primary.

I do not find my D300 to be better than my D2Xs but it is a lot better than my D200.

If your looking for a rarely used D200, let me know, I had used it as my spare to my D2Xs but now have a D300. My D200 has a battery grip.
